How to Obtain an Accident Report in Sacramento County

How to Obtain an Accident Report in Sacramento County

If you have been involved in an accident, one of the more important pieces of evidence is the accident report. How to obtain the accident or collision report depends on which law enforcement agency wrote the report. Every law enforcement has their own policies, keep in mind that this information could change over time, so if you have a question on how to obtain a particular accident report, you can always call a personal injury lawyer like Michael Rehm, or if you know the law enforcement agency that responded to your accident, contact that agencies records department. If you do not know the agency, many times the California Highway Patrol Records division will assist you in finding out.

Even though every law enforcement agency has their own procedure, some standard rules apply, like you must have the incident date, the driver’s information, the location of the accident, and you must be an eligible “Party of Interest.”  Eligible parties of interest include, but are not limited to: the driver, the parents of a minor driver, the passenger, the owner of the vehicle, the owner of any property damaged, your attorney, your insurance adjuster, etc.

Below are links to each law enforcement agency’s page on obtaining collision/accident reports. If you would like more information on how to obtain a report, call Sacramento Accident Attorney Michael Rehm at (916) 476-9781.
